Unfamiliar Indic Words

The transliterated words of Sanskrit or Hindi which are unfamiliar (or not present in English dictionaries) are written in single quotation. Eg. 'varNNamaalaa'.

When a transliterated word is used for the first time, its DevaNagari form is given in the following parentheses along with its English meaning.
Eg. 'varNNamaalaa' (वर्णमाला; alphabet).

We might add simple transliteration.
Eg. 'varNNamaalaa' (वर्णमाला; alphabet; varnamala).

If a distinct plural form of a word does not exist in Hindi then '/s' is appended. Eg. swar/s.

The above mentioned rules are not followed in Headings, Lists, etc. If a word is used many times, quotation marks are not used.

xNagari scheme is used for simple yet correct transliteration.

DevaNagari Words in English Text

It is advisable to avoid writing DevaNagari (Sanskrit, Hindi, etc.) word in the regular English text.

For example :
[Avoid]: नागरी (naagaree; Nagari) is a script.
[Write]: Nagari (नागरी; naagaree) is a script.
